What is Smart Casual?

There is a new kid on the block in terms of office dress codes, and its name is Smart Casual, but what is Smart Casual? Every business is a little different, but in general, think casual chic, such as a nice pair of jeans, heels or dressy flats, a blazer and a blouse. The final look should be polished enough for work yet still appropriate to run errands or meet a friend out for drinks.

I love to dress Smart Casual because I can spend more time with friends and family and less time planning outfits since I can wear one style in multiple settings. For instance, this outfit I wore to work on Friday one week, to Church on Sunday the next and out for drinks with my girlfriends a few weeks after.

When dressing Smart Casual in the office a few simple rules I like to keep in mind :1. Avoid distressed denim with holes
2. When in doubt tuck in your shirt
3. Keep your heels under 4 inches
4. Minimal Jewelry is key {balance statement pieces}
5. Would your grandma approve?

Generally, if Grandma wouldn’t approve of your outfit, most likely your boss won’t either. So if your office dress code is Smart Casual ask to read the dress code policy to get a better understanding to avoid any wardrobe blunders!
