After a bumpy-but-restful night of sleep, we awoke in The Bahamas (for a quick recap of our first day check Tuesday’s post)! Our first stop was at Freeport. So P and I grabbed a quick breakfast at the omellete bar, got ready for the day and headed off the boat.
The port was located at the Straw Market which consists of a bunch of local shop owner’s ‘hut’s with unique gifts and souvenirs.
We walked around for about an hour and finally decided on an adorable tie-died cover up for our future god-daughter! There were a lot of t-shirt options as you can see in the picture above, as well as figurines and decorations made out of coconuts. Which was really fun to walk around and browse!
After we shopped at the Straw Market, we headed out on our first excursion to a local beach. We had purchased this excursion when we were getting off the ship earlier in the day.
Once we arrived to the beach, which took about 35 minutes because they have a very low speed restriction on the island {under 35 mph!} we ordered a few local beers and a fresh mojito and headed to our beach chairs to lounge.
Of course, we weren’t in our chairs long because the anticipation of the ocean was itching at both of us! So, we ran into the water and were shocked to find how warm it was.
It was almost too warm to be refreshing, which is the complete opposite of the Great Lake temps we are accustomed to. The water is gorgeous though. The bright-blue ocean painted the perfect horizon to stare out into as we lounged on the beach and frolicked in the water.
P tried to dunk me, but my muscles were too strong for him to win (just joking!).
The below Beach Bag was my ‘tote’ of choice this entire trip. Not only is it gorgeous {handmade in Peru using 100% hand painted silk — there are matching sandals on their site too} but it is perfectly crafted! There is a closable compartment on the inside for valuables and a snap top to keep it shut.
Two things I always have in my beach bag are Sunscreen and Spikers because no one likes to get burnt or have sand in their drink. Am I right?
After a perfect day at the beach, we headed back to the ship to compete in a bag throwing competition {aka corn-hole} and of course P won! We met a great couple during the competition and chatted the evening away!
Recap of the Day : the Straw Market, Beach and Ship activities were a total success and so much fun!
